In 2016 Assembly Election, 145124 votes are polled in Poonjar Constituency and 43.84% of polled votes are goes to PC George Plathottam. His victory was against UDF Candidate Georgekutty Augusthy with a margin of 27821 votes.

LDF Candidate PC Joseph scored around 15% of total polled votes to become third position. BJP Candidate MR Ullas scored 13% and finished in fourth position.
