The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state president Panakkad Sayyid Haieraly Shihab Thangal announced that PK Kunhalikutty will be the contesting candidate for the 2017 Malappuram By Election.

P K Kunhalikutty was one of the longest serving parliamentarians from Kerala, having been an MP seven times for 26 years.

P.K. Kunhalikutty, was born in 1951 at Oorakam in Malappuram District, as the son of Pandikkadavath Mohammed Haji and KP Fathima Kutty.
